Tim came to me to fight bedbugs. He is so kind and very knowledgeable. He really reassured me and explained everything well. I’m sure my home is in good hands! Hopefully I won’t have to use him again 😉 but I can only recommend him or the pest control company Van der Velden.
Very satisfied

Fantastic service!!! Brandon came on time and worked back to back. Left everything nice and clean. Found a dead mouse after 5 days, no trouble at all. Can recommend this to everyone. Van der Velden and especially Brandon, thank you so much. Merry Christmas and happy and healthy 2024.

Great service and workmanship by Tim.
I could never have controlled the infestation on my own.
He has honor in his work and does not rest until the last mouse is gone.
He even helped me vacuum under the kitchen counter because I couldn’t do it myself.
Very satisfied
Can I get rid of the woodworm myself?
You can possibly try to fight woodworm yourself, but beware; fighting woodworm is not easy and highly toxic.
Therefore, you would be wise to get it done right away by a professional pest control service.
You need to make sure that every woodworm itself, the eggs and the larvae die.
You can fight woodworm with:
- Poison: the poison used is permethrin-based. We do not recommend using poison yourself because this poison is very bad for your health.
- Petroleum: you can buy this yourself and rub the affected wood, when the woodworm comes into contact with the petroleum, they will die. The disadvantage of petroleum is that it does not reach all woodworms and does not seep through wood (petroleum stays on the surface of the wood). As a result, the eggs of the woodworm do not die and you continue to suffer.
- Cold or heat: the woodworm cannot stand cold and heat. To control woodworm, put affected objects in the oven at 55 degrees for at least half an hour. However, an oven has a certain size, which makes it difficult to put large objects in the oven. Otherwise, you could still put affected items in the freezer for two weeks. Again, this is tricky because your freezer is not too big. We have large freezers in our building, so we can put your items in the freezer for two weeks. Give us a call for the possibilities.
As you have read, fighting woodworm is a difficult and tricky job if you want to do it yourself.
For small infestations you can try one of the above methods, but in most cases woodworm is already in several places in the house when you find out.
For effective results, it is best to call in a professional, such as the specialists at Bestrijdingsdienst.nl.

What you didn't know about woodworm
The woodworm, as its name suggests, loves wood.
Oak, pine and also spruce are the types of wood where the critter can often be found.
In addition to sapwood, the longhorn beetle also damages heartwood.
You can find the critters in all sorts of places, such as in wooden furniture and in the floors of your home.
- Inside the house: woodworm can nest in elements of the house.
When found, the critter has been present for some time and in most cases drastic measures must be taken with woodworm control.
(This often involves replacing beams, floor boards and other wooden parts of the house). - In floors: woodworm can also nest in the floor or in the beams on which the floor rests.
However, this nuisance is usually discovered too late, causing serious consequences for the resident. - In furniture: when woodworm is in your floor, the critter can move to the wooden legs of a table or even the wooden legs of your sofa.
When this is the case, you have a big problem and you probably have woodworm (almost) everywhere in your house.
You then need to take drastic measures to fight woodworm.
Why does woodworm cause nuisance
An adult woodworm lays its eggs on the wood where it itself was born.
To grow, larvae need wood, so once the eggs hatch, they immediately plunge into the top soft layers of the wood.
However, this eats pests deeper and deeper into the core of the wood.
Larvae bore long corridors and can remain here for up to 10 years, after which they pupate and emerge as fully grown beetles.
This pupation and hatching leaves a round hole in the woodworm and an oval hole in the longhorn beetle.
In turn, the adult beetles mate and lay their eggs on or near the same wood where they grew up.
This creates an infestation in no time and it is high time for effective woodworm control.
How do I know I am suffering from woodworm?
Although woodworm larvae hide in the wood, there are some signs you can watch for to recognize the presence of woodworms:
- Holes in the wood.
Do you see small, round or oval holes in the wood a few millimeters wide?
These are the “exit holes.
These occur after the larvae have emerged into adult beetles and fly out. - Borage, active woodworms can be identified by the borage coming out of the holes.
They make holes to get rid of their excrement.
This sawdust is also left behind when the exit holes are made. - Eggs, larvae or beetles.
Needless to say, you are bothered by woodworms when you find them.
Although the larvae do not show themselves quickly, their presence indicates an infestation and you should fight them as soon as possible.
Are you suffering from any of the above?
Then opt for professional woodworm control.

This is how we work
The most effective form of woodworm control is injecting the wood with special anti-woodworm chemicals, but before proceeding to fight this critter, it is important to find out what species it is.
With regular woodworms, treatment on the surface of the wood is sufficient (airless method), spraying the chemicals onto the wood.
However, the longhorn beetle eats deeper into the wood.
Therefore, an injection technique is chosen here, where the chemicals are injected into the wood so that the problem is targeted.
Both treatments have a preventive effect of 5 to 10 years.
For this period, we offer you a guarantee, which we would like to give you more information about.
What does woodworm control cost?
Having woodworms controlled is a tricky job because it needs to be done in a special way.
When you discover this critter and want to have it controlled, contact us.
We always visit you first without any obligation.
There is no charge for this.
This way we can see and assess the situation on location.
Then you receive a customized quote and you know immediately where you stand.
The cost of woodworm control will be discussed with you after determining the extent of the problem.
Together we make an accurate indication of the costs before the control.
In the unlikely event that the damage is greater than expected?
Then we will let you know as soon as possible, so there are no surprises.
One thing is certain: the costs of woodworm control are always lower than the damage the insect will do to your house in the long run.
Furniture freezing costs
You may only find woodworm in small wooden furniture or objects.
Examples include (old) chairs, sofas and stools.
To combat woodworm in this furniture, we can use our special freezer.
The furniture and objects are often treated as a whole.
For more information about freezing, contact us or send a photo for a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you want to fight woodworm effectively, you can use ammonia, an agent to which woodworms are not resistant.
The method is simple: smear the affected wooden objects with ammonia and let it seep through the cracks of the wood.
In addition, woodworms also die from special pesticides that penetrate deep into the wood, such as chemicals, heat treatments or even extreme cold.
These professional methods ensure that the woodworm is thoroughly dealt with and the problem is completely solved.
You can tell if woodworm is still active by looking for fresh sawdust or small holes appearing in the wood.
If you find fresh sawdust under the wood, it usually means the woodworm is still active.
You can also sometimes see small beetles flying around, which is a sign of activity.
It is important to check the wood carefully to prevent further damage.
