Where does the longhorn beetle live?
The longhorn beetle is found throughout the northern hemisphere, South Africa and Australia – and therefore also in Amsterdam.
The critters are most common in coniferous forests, for example pine forests or spruce forests.
Moreover, the creature also likes to be found in protein-rich conifers.
Of course, you don’t have all these trees in a city like Amsterdam, but the longhorn beetle is often found in the raw wood that is then used to make furniture or sills and window frames.
How can you prevent the bug?
The best way to prevent a longhorn beetle infestation is to make the right choice of wood.
The longhorn beetle does not sit in hardwood with a maximum of 10% sapwood, such as pine.
These are not affected by longhorn beetle larvae.
In addition, you can impregnate wood after you have bought it.
There are various impregnations for wood, so you can assume that the longhorn beetle will not be in it for the next five years.
