Before you have mold removed, it is helpful to have an idea of the type of mold you are dealing with.
In fact, there are several types:

• Basement fungus: Does the wood in your basement turn brown and feel damp?
  Then you are dealing with the cellar mushroom.
  The dark color ensures that this fungus is often not easily recognized.
  As a result, this fungus causes a lot of damage to the wood in your home or building unnoticed.
• The house fungus: do you see a red/brownish oval with a white border in your house?
  For example, on or around wooden beams or on the border of the wall and ceiling?
  Then you are dealing with the house fungus.
  This fungus causes health problems in addition to damage to homes and properties.
• Black mold: Black mold is the most recognizable form of the fungus. They are the black dots that are common in damp rooms.
• Wood mold: wood mold is only encountered when you are remodeling or when you smell a musty odor in a particular room.
  You recognize wood mold by the mold spores that the mold leaves on the wood.
• White mold: white mold grows like black mold in damp areas, but is white in color and has a fluffy and powdery texture
• Pink mold, this fungus is also known as pink slime. In addition, it is not actually a fungus, but a type of bacteria called Serratia marcescens. This bacterium has a pink to reddish color. You often come across it in damp rooms, but especially in bathrooms and showers.
• Yellow mold: This is a particular fungus that is commonly found in homes, with the scientific name ‘Aspergillus’. This fungus grows well in damp areas such as bathrooms and basements, and can be either bright yellow or golden yellow in color.
• Brown mold: also known as Serpula Lacrymans, is a common form of mold that affects wood. In addition to affecting wood, this mold can also occur in bathrooms, basements, and crawl spaces.
• Orange mold is a type of fungus that, as the name implies, has a striking orange color. This species is often found on food, wood, or other organic materials and can be found both indoors and outdoors.
• Green mold: this type of fungus has a greenish color and is common in damp places such as walls, food and plants and can include different species such as Aspergillus, Penicillium or Cladosporium.

Why is mold remediation necessary?

By now you know what the most common fungi are and how to recognize them.
But why, for example, should you have wood mold controlled?
The answer is simple: for your health.
You see, mold reproduces by producing spores that contain harmful substances: mycotoxins.
These spores spread through the house via the air and, when in contact with the skin, cause itching and a burning sensation.
However, itching and burning are not the only symptoms of mold.

How do I recognize mold?

First, you need to be able to recognize the mold.

• See – Mold is common in damp places, such as in the bathroom.
  You can recognize this mold by the small black spots between the joints.
  The more moisture in the walls, the larger the mold spots will become.
  In addition to the black spots, you can also recognize mold by an orange powder.
  This powder comes from the “house fungus.
• Smell – The odors left by mold are commonly described as musty and pungent.
• Feel – Of course, mold in your home is not good for your health.
  When you enter a room where mold is present, you will soon enough notice the air hitting your lungs.
  Mold often aggravates respiratory complaints such as asthma, but it can also cause a sore throat and a lot of coughing.
