Fungi: what types are there?

Just like any organism, fungi also come in different species. The most common fungi are the house fungus and the cellar fungus.

• The cellar fungus – The cellar fungus owes its name to the place where it is most common, namely in your basement or crawl space. Because of the location where the cellar fungus is, you are least likely to detect it. The cellar fungus quickly causes damage, especially to wall openings, doors, beams, wooden floors, and ceilings. If you wait to fight the cellar fungus, the wood will rot and eventually give way. It is therefore necessary to proceed directly to fungus control.
• The house fungus – The house fungus can be found in places where it is dark, warm and humid. This fungus can originate in the basement, but under the right conditions it will quickly spread to other places in the house. In addition, the house fungus is also the biggest cause of wood rot. This fungus grows quickly and moves through the walls due to the fungal threads, which can cause great nuisance. For example, the joists of your house or even the wooden foundation can be affected. It is therefore necessary to fight the house fungus quickly. The house fungus is the most harmful to your health, because it is located in your immediate environment.

Recognizing fungi: how do I do that?

Just like any fungus, fungi also leave spores behind. You can recognize these by using your senses:

• Seeing – The cellar fungus has a dark and moist appearance. Due to its dark colour, the cellar fungus is difficult to spot. It is the strands of the cellar fungus that betray him. The strands spread like a fan over your wall or the wood and, like the fungus itself, are dark in color. The house fungus is a lot easier to spot. You can recognize the house fungus by its red color, oval shape with white edge and the moisture droplets that hang from the fungus. At an early stage, the house fungus can be recognized by its network of white threads on your wall, this is also called the mycelium.
• Smell – Fungi are fungi and just like the black mold or wood mold, fungi can be recognized by their strong musty smell.
• Feeling – The house fungus and cellar fungus have major adverse effects on your health. The house fungus in particular causes you to suffer (extra) from your airways or allergies. Excessive sneezing, eye strain, the emergence of inflammation and even the development of asthma are consequences that the house fungus can cause.

Cellar fungus control by a specialist
