Professional moth control: why choose Bestrijdingsdienst.nl
Moths can be tricky pests to control on their own.
In addition, moths reproduce quickly, so you can soon have to deal with an infestation.
If you try to control moths yourself, they are more likely to come back.
After getting rid of moths yourself or having them controlled professionally, it is essential to take preventive measures and continue to follow them (especially important for clothing stores or textile companies, for example).
This way you keep moths out and ensure that the control is effective.
We have listed three reasons why it is better to have moths professionally controlled than to do it yourself.
Our specialists have years of experience in controlling moths.
As a result, we know exactly where to look and where the moths can hide their eggs.
These are often places that are easy to overlook as a homeowner.
A moth does not show itself easily and there are several control techniques.
For example, we may have to dry clean your house or have your clothes frozen.
We have all the equipment to effectively eliminate and control moths.
It is important to stay alert if you have suffered from moths before.

Tim came to me to fight bedbugs. He is so kind and very knowledgeable. He really reassured me and explained everything well. I’m sure my home is in good hands! Hopefully I won’t have to use him again 😉 but I can only recommend him or the pest control company Van der Velden.
Very satisfied

Great service and workmanship by Tim.
I could never have controlled the infestation on my own.
He has honor in his work and does not rest until the last mouse is gone.
He even helped me vacuum under the kitchen counter because I couldn’t do it myself.
Very satisfied

Holes in your jacket?
Packages of flour that have been tarnished or damaged to textiles and clothing?

How do I recognize moths in the house?
Before you start fighting moths in your wardrobe, it’s useful to first recognize the signs of moths in your home. You can do this by looking for holes in fabric furniture and clothing or for packs of food that have been affected. For example, does it no longer help to keep your wardrobe closed or to pack your clothes airtight? Then you have to deal with a nasty moth infestation. It is then wise to call in professionals who have experience in fighting moths, such as bestrijdingsdienst.nl.
What kind of moths are there in the Netherlands?
There are more than 2400 species worldwide. There are only a few moths that cause the nuisance, also in the Netherlands. We will name the four most annoying moths:
Controlling the brown house moth (Hofmannophila pseudospretella)
This is perhaps the most well-known moth you see in Dutch homes and businesses. As the name suggests, the moth is brown in color. These insects grow to a size of about 8 to 14 millimeters. The larvae of this moth are a bit creamy in color and have a brown head. The larvae are the nuisance. They feed mainly on textiles and clothing, but also eat seeds and grain. Do you have these at home and can’t seem to get rid of these annoying pests? Get in touch with us.
Controlling the clothes moth (Tineola bisselliella)
In addition to the brown house moth, it is unfortunately also common. The larvae of the moth are mainly found in garments. When the larva is an adult, the moth grows to a size of about 6 and 8 millimeters and has a golden brown to yellowish color. These larvae are also creamy in color. Fun fact; For some reason, the larvae have a preference for polka dot clothing. So if you think you’re suffering from the clothes moth, take a look at your polka dot clothing first. Do you find out that you have these at home and are you unable to get rid of these annoying pests? Please contact us. In addition, you can recognize an infestation by the following points:
- Damage to textiles, such as carpets
- Holes in clothing, especially in wool, silk, and cashmere
- Moth eggs and moth larvae on clothing
Fighting the flour moth (Plodia interpunctella)
If you suffer from moths in the kitchen, there is a good chance that the larvae of the flour moth are feasting on your food. An adult meal moth grows to a size of about 7 to 9 millimeters. However, this species looks a lot bigger when they fly. You can recognize the moth by its slightly black color. The larvae of the flour moth can be easily recognized by their green color. Have you thrown away all your food several times, but these pests keep coming back? Please contact us. In addition, you can recognize the animal by the following points:
- Damage to food packaging and products in your kitchen
- Webs of the moth larvae.
These they purr while they are feeding - Spoiled food
Controlling the boxwood moth (Cydalima perspectalis)
The boxwood moth is a different species of moth than the three moths above. The three mentioned above are larvae before they become moths. It is different with the boxwood moth. There they are caterpillars that then turn into a moth. In addition, this animal is not in your house, but in your garden. If you have a shrub in your garden and this shrub has been taken over by caterpillars, there is a good chance that you are bothered by the boxwood caterpillar. Not to be confused with the oak processionary caterpillar, which lives in trees. You can have these controlled by us or you can control them yourself by, for example, spraying the bushes several times a week with a high-pressure cleaner or to hang more birdhouses. It is important that you do not buy poison, but only natural pesticides. Birds like the boxwood caterpillar, and when you use poison, the birds also die. Of course, that is not the intention.
What are moths?
Moths are moths.
They are born as larvae and need a lot of nutrition to grow.
The annoying thing is that the moths themselves are not the nuisance, but the larvae.
Clothing, carpet, fabrics and fur are not safe for their appetite.
These signals are therefore very important, so that you could control the moths at an early stage.
In three to six months, the larvae have grown into a moth and they fledge.
Moths are mainly active at night, and in order to move unnoticed, they have relatively little color.

8 tips to get rid of moths
Tip 1: fight moths with vinegar
Vinegar is one of the best means to get rid of moths yourself. The acid in vinegar causes the bugs to die. It is important to mix this 1:1 with water. Then you can put it in a spray and spray everything with this spray. In addition, we recommend wiping the entire hive with a cloth, so that the moths, larvae and eggs die. The advantage of fighting moths with vinegar is that it does not affect surfaces and substances. In addition, it can be used for a wide range of purposes.
Tip 2: place mothballs
You can’t use mothballs against every moth, but only against clothes moths. Put these in your closet and replace them every three months. This should chase away the clothes moth, but it is not a guarantee.
Tip 3: use a special moth spray
Note: always read the leaflet of this spray. We recommend buying a spray with a natural pesticide, so that it does not affect your clothes and surfaces. When you buy a spray with a toxic agent, it can affect your clothes.
Tip 4: wash contaminated clothing at a high temperature
When you find out that you have clothes moths, empty your entire wardrobe and wash all your clothes. Preferably at 50 or 60 degrees, but pay attention to, for example, your shirts and polo shirts, which you can only wash at 30 to 40 degrees. When you wash clothes hot, you kill larvae and the eggs. Important! Don’t hang your clothes back immediately, but wipe your entire wardrobe with vinegar, see tip 1.
Tip 5: freeze clothes
Some garments cannot be washed hot, so put these garments in the freezer. Then leave the garment in the freezer for 48 hours at a temperature of -20 degrees. Don’t have a large freezer of your own? We have very large freezers and we can freeze clothes or other textiles for you.
Tip 6: vacuum as often as possible
Have you discovered that you suffer from moths? Vacuum everything thoroughly, including the baseboards and rugs. Because this can also contain the larvae and eggs of moths.
Tip 7: protect your food
Flour moths and food moths are an eyesore. They lay eggs in open packages. Store open food in special Tupperware containers, so that your food is tightly sealed.
Tip 8: opt for professional moth control
Are you unable to get rid of these pests yourself? And do you want a professional to get to work? Then call in the specialists at bestrijdingsdienst.nl. We are quickly on site to tackle the problem effectively and quickly!
What are the costs for moth control?
Effectively controlling moths helps you to prevent further (financial) damage.
Professional control pays off, but it also comes at a cost.
Together with you, we will go through the situation during the telephone intake and immediately give an indication of the costs.
In the unlikely event that the infestation is larger than expected?
Then we will let you know as soon as possible.
This way you won’t be faced with any surprises.
