What are mites?
Mites or dust mites are arachnids and have eight legs. They live for about two to three months and usually take three to four weeks to grow from an egg to an adult mite. Mites thrive best in an environment where the temperature is between 20 and 30 degrees and the relative humidity is 60-80%. In order to live, a mite needs three things:
- a (dark) place to live;
- food (dander);
- moisture (from the air).
Mites can be the cause of severe itching in animals. In humans, they can cause allergic reactions, scabies, eczema, and infections.
