Mice control company: professional removal of mice

In the summer, mice usually live outside.
In winter, they move indoors and cause the most nuisance.
The peak in the demand for mice control is in the months of January and February.
You can also experience problems with mice in other parts of the year.

Where do you find mice?

Mice are known to be culture followers.
Wherever man is, so is the mouse.
Mice are most commonly seen in and around the kitchen.
The reason for this is obvious: food.
The house mouse loves the leftovers of food that we as humans leave marked and unnoticed.
Food pantries are also popular among mice.
The disadvantage of this is that mice damage your food supply and you have to throw this food away.

Do I have a mouse infestation? These are the signs

Mice are considered pests.
They carry diseases, leave feces, and pass urine everywhere.
Mice are therefore not welcome guests in a house and as soon as you see one, you have to fight the mice.
Still, mice are more common in homes than you think.
They hide under the floor and between the walls.
For this reason, a mouse infestation can develop quickly.
But how do you recognize a mouse infestation if you don’t see the critters themselves very often?
You can recognize a mouse infestation by the following characteristics:

  • Mice in the house – When you see mice in the house, it is a clear signal that you are suffering from a mouse infestation.
  • Mouse droppings – Mouse droppings look like small black kernels and are often found in the corner of the room or on the kitchen counter.
When you remove the droppings and they reappear within a few days, this is a clear signal of mice in the house.
  • Odour nuisance – Mice stink.
The house mouse leaves behind a characteristic smell that causes a nuisance.
  • Cracks and holes – The mouse is a rodent.
It is therefore not surprising that they make their way through gnawing holes.
Do you see a hole in the wall or in the kitchen cabinet, or are you bothered by the aforementioned signals?
Then you are most likely dealing with a mouse infestation.

5 tips to try to get rid of mice yourself

  1. To keep mice out, the most important thing is not to leave any food scraps on the table or counter.
Also, don’t forget to vacuum or sweep the crumbs off the floor.
A clean house is one of the most important things to keep mice out.
  2. Make sure bins are properly sealed, especially if there are food scraps in them (even in packaging).
    Mice are attracted to this.
  3. It helps to store food in airtight jars and containers.
  4. Protect your home from mice by carefully sealing small gaps and cracks.
This makes it more difficult for mice to get indoors.
  5. Consider a cat!
Cats can be effective mouse catchers, but you have cats that are not mouse hunters.
Unfortunately, you don’t know this in advance.

Please note! Although the above tips are worth trying, it is not a guarantee against nuisance from mice.
For the best solutions, you need the expertise of a professional pest control professional, such as the specialists at Bestrijdingsdienst.nl.

What types of mice are there in the Netherlands?

The world has many different types of mice.
Although they all look alike, the characteristics of each species of mice differ greatly.
In the Netherlands, we generally have four types of mice: the regular house mouse, the shrew, the wood mouse, and the field mouse.
We list their characteristics:

Fighting a house mouse

Most of the reports we receive as a mouse controller are for the regular house mouse (Mus musculus).
Characteristic of this species of mouse is that, as the name suggests, it is often found in homes and has spread almost all over the world.
The house mouse has a long tail and can easily squeeze through cracks and holes.
In addition, it can reproduce quickly and lives in a family.
If you see one house mouse in the house, you can assume that there are several walking around.
The diet of this species of mice consists of pretty much everything edible.
From cereals to bread and from biscuits to rice, nothing is safe.
Controlling house mice is an (almost) daily occurrence for us and no problem at all.

Wood mouse

The wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) is seen least in urban areas.
This mouse (again, the name gives it away) is common in wooded areas.
The wood mouse acts as a food source for other animals such as owls and other birds of prey.
Wood mice are diggers and make burrows in which they can nest.
The diet is versatile and consists of insects, worms, green plants, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits.
The wood mouse is often larger than other mouse species and can grow to more than 10 cm in length.
Nice detail: this mouse can jump.

Vole

The vole (Microtus arvalis) is the most in the news.
It lives on open plains with sufficiently low shelter.
Fields, fields, grassland, and fallow land are the most common habitats.
The vole regularly makes the news because it can reproduce quickly.
With five to six litters per year of five to six young, one pair of mice can produce 25 to 36 offspring within a year.
A few hundred pairs of mice can occur on a farmer’s grassland, and then a mouse infestation is not far away under ideal conditions.
Eaten grassland or crops that fail can be the consequences of this.

Fighting shrews

The shrew (Crocidura russula) belongs to a different species of mouse and is less common in and around homes.
The shrew is a species that feeds on insects instead of seeds and other food.
When it gets colder, this mouse species often moves to warmer locations around its habitat.
It is therefore possible that you will encounter a spit mouse in the house in the winter.
This mouse is not entirely undesirable.
The spit mouse eats cockroaches, spiders and other insects in the house.

Have mice professionally controlled by a specialist

Of course, you can get rid of mice yourself using the above methods.
However, there is often a lack of the necessary knowledge and that is where our strength lies.
Thanks to our years of experience in mouse control, we know where to find the holes and cracks where they come from.
We can also directly trace the scent, so that we can find out where they come from.
Mouse control is therefore true craftsmanship.
When you call in us, we look at the current situation and determine which control method (biocides, walk-in traps or other sustainable methods) are suitable.
This depends on the type of mouse, the size of the home or business premises, the technical condition, and the extent of the nuisance.

How much does mouse control cost?

The costs depend on the personal situation and that is why we will first determine this when we visit you.
We do not charge call-out costs for this.
Based on this, we can give you an accurate indication of the costs.
This way you immediately know where you stand.
