Professional fly control: why choose Bestrijdingsdienst.nl

To effectively combat a fly infestation, it is important that the problem is tackled at the root cause. Our specialists can recognize the species of fly and know how best to control it. In most cases, we do this by spraying surfaces using an airless method. This has a killing and deterrent effect for the part of the season in which we fight. You can come to us for all types of flies: kluster flies, fruit flies, sewer flies, etc. We also control flies indoors (such as beams and cavity walls) and fly control outdoors (such as facades and window frames).

Our experts have extensive experience in fly control. We know exactly where to look and where flies can nest and lay their eggs. These are often places that are easy to overlook as a homeowner.

A fly is not always easy to spot and different control techniques are needed. As a result, we may need to treat your home thoroughly or you may need to take certain measures, such as thoroughly cleaning food sources and sealing off openings where flies can enter. We have all the necessary equipment to effectively control and remove flies.

Our specialists not only take measures to control flies, but they also offer valuable tips and preventive measures to prevent a return of flies. Stay alert, especially if you’ve had problems flying in the past.

Fighting flies: fast and effective!

A fly infestation is not only annoying, but also poses health risks. Flies spread numerous diseases because they settle on rotting meat, waste and stagnant water, among other things. To limit the nuisance, fighting flies is essential. If you have a small number of flies in your home or building, you can control flies yourself, but if you have a large number of flies, professionals must be called in. They have the knowledge and resources to tackle the problem at the source. Our team of pest controllers will look for a suitable solution for all types of flies.

What types of flies are there?

In the Netherlands we come across different types of flies. Depending on the season, flies can be a real pest and a nuisance. Problems can arise, especially in the summer. Due to the warm weather, the ripening process of fruit is faster. Fruit flies love this.

We also see the normal housefly, the blowfly and the fly a lot in the summer. These species are attracted to rotting flesh from dead animals in which the maggots can easily nest. Gadflies and hoverflies are less of a pest during this period. At the end of summer or at the beginning of autumn, temperatures drop and conditions become less favorable. As a result, the flies start to cluster. They hibernate in large numbers during autumn, winter and spring. For that reason, the previously mentioned species are also called cluster flies. They become active when their hibernation site is heated, for example when you turn on the heating. They can therefore be a nuisance almost all year round.

Then there are the sewer flies, also known as moth flies or moth gnats. They are especially common during hot and wet summers and can often be found around drains, downspouts, sinks, etc.

When is there a fly nuisance?

Flies hibernate in small holes in cavity walls, facades, gutters, window frames, etc. A hole of 2 millimeters already offers a good place to survive. Flies create a scent trail in the holes that attract other flies so that they can mate. This allows a large number of flies to hide. When it gets warmer, they come out. For example, when you turn on the heating or when the sun starts to shine in the spring. When there are openings on the inside of your home or building, the flies can also come inside. In addition, flies reproduce at lightning speed. Although the life of a fly is short (about 30 days), they lay between 400 and 600 eggs in their lifetime. In this way, an infestation will develop in no time and fly control is necessary.

Flies that are attracted to rotting flesh are mainly seen outside, but can also fly into your home at some point. Again, these flies lay a lot of eggs, which means that a plague is lurking.

Where do you encounter flies?

Flies can often be found near their preferred food source. This can be overripe fruit, manure heaps, rotting meat, stagnant water, drainpipes, etc. These places may be out of your reach, but that doesn’t mean you won’t experience any inconvenience. When flies hibernate in holes in your home or building, they can penetrate in no time. A fly infestation often occurs in attics, because flies can go about their business there unnoticed and can hibernate quietly. Sometimes there is a dead mouse that flies are attracted to.

Fly nuisance and its consequences

Flies may seem harmless due to their small size, but they can still cause quite a nuisance. First of all, they can contaminate food with harmful bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasitic worms. When this contaminated food is consumed, one can become seriously ill, such as salmonella. In addition, a fly infestation significantly reduces living comfort. There is little more annoying than flies that sit on your food or make an annoying buzzing noise continuously.

Signs of a fly infestation

When you find a few flies in your house or around your home, we cannot yet speak of an infestation. However, if you recognize the following signs, then there is a fly infestation:

  • Brown or black dots on items and furniture. Because flies love light, you often come across the small dark spots on windowsills and lampshades.
  • You see dead flies.
  • Lots of flying flies or they sit in large numbers on the wall or other surfaces.
  • There are a lot of flies in the waste bin, possibly also white maggots. In that case, this is the breeding ground.

Fighting flies in the house and outdoors

To prevent a fly infestation, it is important to work hygienically. Clean up rubbish neatly, close containers properly and make sure there is no standing water in your garden. Are you still inconvenienced? You can tackle flies when there are only a few of them. Sprays, glue traps or an old-fashioned fly swatter can offer a solution. However, if you are bothered by hundreds of flies, it is necessary to call in professional exterminators to effectively control the pests. This is also necessary when the flies are in hard-to-reach places, such as facades and gutters.

Preventive fly infestation control

In addition to controlling flies at home and outdoors, we can also take preventive measures. We treat exterior facades, gutters, window frames and door frames with the aforementioned airless method, so that flies can no longer crawl into the holes. We usually do this in the autumn or spring, so that you are well prepared. Have you suffered from a fly infestation before? Please let us know. In that case, we can treat surfaces preventively, minimizing the chance of a new infestation in that specific spot. This applies to both preventive fly control indoors and preventive fly control outdoors.
