Cluster flies removal

Kluster flies is the collective name for various fly species that occur in swarms or clusters, especially in spring, autumn and winter. In the Netherlands, the best-known species are the kluster fly, the autumn fly and the grass fly. A cluster fly measures about 8 millimeters and can be recognized by the golden-colored hairs on the top of its thorax. The larva of a kluster fly lives in the body of an earthworm where it feeds.

How do you recognize a kluster fly infestation?

All three species of cluster flies look for a place to hibernate in the autumn. They become more active when their habitat is heated in winter. If handyman flies choose your home for their hibernation, you will notice that they become more active when you turn on the heating, for example.

Flying in the Netherlands

At various times of the year, flies can be a pest in the Netherlands. In the summer, fruit flies in particular are a nuisance, especially around ripe fruit such as bananas and other tropical fruit that is open and exposed.

In addition to fruit flies, the common housefly, the blowfly and the fly are also common uninvited guests. The warm temperatures facilitate the development of maggots in rotting flesh, allowing these flies to reproduce quickly. Gadflies and hoverflies are less of a problem during this period.

At the end of summer or the beginning of autumn, the conditions become less favorable for these flies, which leads to the clustering of the flies — hence the name kluster flies.

Normally, these flies look for a warm place from the outside, such as the corner of a garage or under a canopy. They do this by the hundreds. If there is a crack or hole leading inside, the flies can enter your home en masse, which can be very annoying and unhygienic.
