Bed Bugs Unwanted Holiday Souvenir

Coming home after a wonderful holiday is always a nice feeling. You have enjoyed a few wonderful days and have completely relaxed. Once you get home, take the suitcases through the living room to the bedroom and throw it open. After all, you want to unpack your suitcase as soon as possible. Logical, but it is less safe than you think! In your suitcase, and even worse in your clothes, there may be tiny insect eggs that can cause a huge infestation. Bed bugs, also known as bed bugs, are increasingly becoming an unwanted holiday souvenir. In the Netherlands, there are several reports of bed bug infestations. Pest control service Van der Velden explains what you can do as a holidaymaker to prevent bed bugs and, in the worst case, to combat them. Because prevention is always better than cure!

What you can do at your holiday destination

When you’re on vacation, you’re probably not at all busy inspecting your hotel room or thinking about the fact that there might be very annoying insects in unwanted places. Especially with bed bugs, it is extremely important that you carefully inspect how clean your hotel room or holiday home is. Take a good look on and under mattresses and also check slatted bases. That’s where bed bugs are generally found the most. Also check behind paintings and curtains. These are also popular hiding places for bed bugs. Finally, it also pays to keep a close eye on sockets. Electrical outlets can provide a warm shelter for bed bugs.

What you can do when you come back from vacation

As soon as you return from your wonderful holiday, it is important that you do not drag the suitcase around the house and open it on your bed or in the living room. Follow the advice below:

  • Do not take the holiday suitcases inside;
  • Put laundry outside in garbage bags;
  • Then put the laundry in the washing machine immediately;
  • Wash at 60 degrees or higher;
  • Hire a certified company. It can freeze your suitcase of clothes;
  • Call Van der Velden Pest Control Service. We will make an appointment as soon as possible.
