The difference between bees and wasps

First, it is important to explain the difference between bees and wasps.
It often happens that people are mistaken about the insect.
Then it is not a bee nest, but a wasp nest that bothers them.
But what is the difference between a wasp and a bee?

First, the way they can sting.
A wasp has the ability to sting several times without dying.
A bee can only sting once and then dies.
For this reason, a bee will never attack spontaneously.
They sting only to defend themselves or the nest and are therefore harmless.

Another difference is in the sting.
The sting of a wasp is smooth and therefore can be used multiple times to sting.
The sting of a bee has a barb.
This ensures that the sting stays in the skin.
If the bee is then knocked away (a common reaction), the sting is left with the venom sac.
This venom sac continues to pump venom into the skin until the entire sting is gone.
Should you ever be stung by a bee, make sure that the bee with sting is removed.

What is a bee's nest?

Bees use a nest to grow their larvae.
They lay their eggs in here and provide it with pollen.
Different spaces are used as a bee’s nest, depending on the species.
Many times a passage is dug in the soil or they nest in a hollow space above the ground.
Consider hollow plant stems, dead wood or cracks in the wall.

Bee nest removal and the consequences

In principle, a nest can do little harm.
However, the entrance to the nest may be in a place that causes you to walk through the approach route.
To defend themselves or the nest, bees may start stinging.
When a bee flies near you, it’s best not to start striking around you.
Again, the bee will defend itself (sting) and that is exactly what you want to prevent.
If you get stung, you may experience swelling, pain and redness around the sting site.

Can you remove a bee nest in the ground?

When you find out that there is a bee nest in the ground, we recommend that you do not start removing the nest in the ground yourself.
Call in a professional exterminator.
After all, you don’t know how deep the nest is and whether it is an incipient nest or a mature one.
Moreover, do-it-yourself bee pesticides will not produce the desired results.

Exterminate bees

Having a bee nest in or around your home is not pleasant.
Especially if you have small children or spend a lot of time outside.
Exterminating bees is then often the only solution.
What you should not do is try to remove the bee nest yourself.
This encourages defense of the bee.
It also makes no sense to close off the nest.
The bees will then look for another exit.
Always enlist the help of a professional!

Is bee nest control allowed?

Yes, but only if the situation calls for it and there is a real nuisance.
For example, in a children’s sandbox.
After all, bees are enormously useful animals and have an important function in the pollination of all kinds of plants.

Bee nest removal: what are the options?

Before proceeding with bee nest removal, we must be sure that it is bees.
We find that many of the calls involve a wasp nest rather than a bee nest.
In that case, we use pesticides that cause the wasps to die.

Removing a bee nest can only be done when the nest is still in the early stages of its development.
When it grows larger and larger, it will be necessary to proceed to bee nest control.

Frequently asked questions about bees

To get rid of a bee nest, it is best to hire a professional pest controller, because removing it yourself can be dangerous.
The specialist can safely and effectively remove the nest without harming the bees.
Try not to disturb the nest yourself to avoid stings.

A bee’s nest is made of wax and has a honeycomb shape, while a wasp’s nest is made of chewed wood and feels like paper.
Bees tend to be quieter and only sting when they are scared, while wasps are quicker to attack to protect their nest.
Bee nests are often found in hollow trees or hives, while wasp nests are often on eaves or in the ground.
